“West Side Story,” with performers from the New York stage and from the highly acclaimed 2009 Broadway revival of the play, is on April 20 and 21 with the Spokane Symphony and performers from Spokane Civic Theatre. The live score will be played by the symphony under the baton of Resident Conductor Morihiko Nakahara. This co-production is also part of the worldwide celebration of “Leonard Bernstein at 100,” with the play’s music by Bernstein, lyrics by Stephen Sondheim, book by Arthur Laurents and choreography by Jerome Robbins. “West Side Story’s” plot about idealistic love in the face of hate, violence and prejudice is as relevant today as it was when it debuted on Broadway in 1957. Don’t miss this once-in-a-lifetime cast performing what’s been called “the greatest musical of all time.”
