SUMMARY:Sally Graves Machlis and Delphine Keim - TRAVERSING
DESCRIPTION:The City of Spokane Arts Commission is pleased to present Traversing\, an exhibition by Idaho artists Sally Graves Machlis and Delphine Keim at the Chase Gallery in Spokane City Hall. The exhibition will be on view September 4 – October 30\, 2026\, with a free public opening reception on September 4th from 5:00-8:00 pm. \nPainter\, Sally Graves Machlis\, and graphic designer\, Delphine Keim\, combine their sensibilities within their mixed media work. The artists invite reflection through ambiguity\, validation\, and even dismay. The work focuses on the commonalities that we all share and explores environmental\, social and personal issues. \nBoth artists are scheduled to be present during the September 4th First Friday reception at the Chase Gallery. Visitors will have an opportunity to meet Machlis and Keim and learn more about the stories and processes behind their collaborative work. There will also be poets from the Teen Poetry Cohort at Spark Central reading their work throughout the evening.

SUMMARY:Opening Reception for "Drunken Boxing"\, artwork by Blake Liliane Hellman
DESCRIPTION:Please join us on First Friday\, October 2nd\, from 5 to 8\, for the opening reception of Drunken Boxing\, a compelling new exhibit of the mixed-media paintings\, video and working notebooks of Blake Liliane Hellman. Drunken boxing is a discipline of deliberate imbalance. The fighter trains rigorously\, then lets that training go. It is a method of practiced relaxation\, a devious carelessness. A misstep is not weakness\, it is process in disguise. That same tension between discipline and surrender runs through the paintings of Blake Liliane Hellman\, whose work explores that moment when conscious control abates just long enough to disarm both artist and viewer. Drunken Boxing runs from October 2nd to October 30th\, open Wednesdays and Thursdays from 11 to 5:30\, Fridays and Saturdays 11 to 6

SUMMARY:Opening Reception for Critical Infrastructure
DESCRIPTION:The opening reception provides a first look at the show and a chance to meet the artists. \nMuseum and gallery directors\, nonprofit arts organization founders\, art teachers\, and other local arts advocates have made a life of showcasing the art of others\, while their own work is rarely seen. This exhibition challenges its participants to make new work\, providing space to honor the creative talents that led them to these careers. It also highlights the breadth of our regional arts ecosystem\, offering a chance to meet and connect with the stewards of our growing arts community. Prepare to experience a range of works in clay\, mixed media sculpture\, painting\, printmaking\, photography and more. Each participant’s work is united in the theme that they don’t make art to make a living\, yet they are immersed in art and with artists every day\, which is a unique perspective. \nCritical Infrastructure includes the work of Ali Blackwood (Inlander)\, Ali Shute (Coeur d’Alene Arts & Culture Alliance – retired)\, Ann Saberi (Jordan Schnitzer Museum WSU)\, Brooke Wagner (Northwest Museum of Arts and Culture)\, Chelsea Cordova (Arts marketing\, instructor)\, Eva Silverstone (The Hive / Spokane Public Libraries)\, Jeni Hegsted (founder of Emerge)\, Jennifer LaRue (arts writer\, advocate)\, John Fullmer (Northwest Museum of Arts and Culture)\, Kelsey Cook (Spokane International Academy)\, Kristin Becker (Jordan Schnitzer Museum WSU)\, Megan Cherry (Moscow Public Arts)\, Rachel Allen (Northwest Museum of Arts and Culture)\, and Rob Worstell (Northwest Museum of Arts and Culture). \nIn addition to its opening night\, which coincides with First Friday\, Critical Infrastructure is scheduled to run through October 31st and will be open FREE to the public every Thursday\, Friday and Saturday from 4pm – 7pm at 628 N Monroe St\, Spokane\, WA 99201.
