DESCRIPTION:Join us for Found in Translation\, a show by Elizabeth Lancaster at Terrain Gallery. This show is Elizabeth’s way of processing connections to her father and his family’s immigration experience. These images are inspired by stories told by her father\, memories of he and his family\, and their life as emigrants from Mexico. The body of work is born from questions that surround her own story – what it means to hold ties to so much culture and history and yet only know her heritage through what is translated by her family. Using watercolor\, Elizabeth learned to weave in her own visual perspective\, adding bold hues and patterns to juxtapose her father’s black and white stories of poverty\, hardship\, commitment to family\, and faith. This series of watercolors are both joyful and somber\, colorful and achromatic. DESCRIPTION:Come on down to Auntie’s to learn all about creatures who live in our deep oceans!  \nAuthor Meghan Jones is a local artist with a focus on the deep sea. In 2025 Meghan co-founded the Unseen Ocean Collective; a trailblazing group of four women\, three artists and a scientist\, dedicated to revealing the beauty and wonder of the deep-sea through international art and science outreach events. Meghan took her skills and created this children’s book!  \nBetween four and seven miles deep\, the ocean—where pressure is one ton per square centimeter—evokes both mystery and misunderstanding; accessing these depths is challenging to human exploration. Our fear of this dark unknown often conjures images of monsters of the deep\, especially in the minds of children. Based on current scientific observations and studies\, this book demonstrates that reality can be more fascinating than the wildest imagination all while traveling from the shore to the deepest of ocean trenches. Along the way it introduces children to twenty of the most unusual creatures to inhabit the oceans\, including bone-eating worms\, supergiant amphipods with expanding stomachs\, snails made of iron\, worms that eat chemicals and even hagfish who can suffocate on their own slime. This book will excite a new generation of ocean explorers who can take their piqued interest and become a much needed movement for deep ocean stewardship.  \nWritten for independent readers from ages 8-12\, but enjoyable by everyone! \nThis event is free and open to the public.

DESCRIPTION:This session will provide an overview of climate-induced migration in the US context\, with particular attention to the impacts on and opportunities for local communities. A simple framework will be presented to help guide the conversation and help attendees better understand why it is important for small towns and large cities alike to consider how they might integrate preparedness activities into their comprehensive plans\, climate action or adaptation plans\, and other guiding documents. Some of the questions to consider during this session: Will climate change bring newcomers to my community and who might arrive? How can my community build capacity to respond? What welcoming infrastructure do communities need to think about to prepare for newcomers? How does welcoming advance or affect resilience and sustainability? What next steps can interested practitioners and local leaders take to advance the local conversation? We’ll leave plenty of time for questions and discussion.

Using watercolor\, Elizabeth learned to weave in her own visual perspective\, adding bold hues and patterns to juxtapose her father’s black and white stories of poverty\, hardship\, commitment to family\, and faith. This series of watercolors are both joyful and somber\, colorful and achromatic.
