SUMMARY:Descendants
DESCRIPTION:Introducing Moeckel Studio’s “Descendants”\, their most prominent solo exhibition yet. Sponsored by Chrysalis Gallery and featuring special guest artist Godfitti and live music showcase (Friday 7pm) featuring Native American musician\, Bambii. There will be never before seen artwork by Sonny and Lisa Moekcel\, giveaways\, door prizes\, auction items\, and more. \n“Descendants” is a reflection on history\, culture\, and the stories that live inside us. For Sonny\, this show is deeply personal and tied to his Native American ancestry. His great grandfather was Jicarilla Apache Chief James Garfield Velarde\, and while generations pass\, the presence of those who came before us never disappears. Their strength\, survival\, and spirit continue through us. These portraits are not just paintings of individuals\, they are reminders that we are all part of something larger than ourselves. Indigenous history is not something that only exists in the past. It lives through descendants\, through culture\, through memory\, and through the act of remembering. \nThis exhibition honors the resilience of Indigenous people\, the beauty of ancestry\, and the responsibility we carry as descendants to keep these stories alive. We remember\, they remain.

SUMMARY:Strange Way to Go: Scott Gyllstrom at the Spokane Art School
DESCRIPTION:Exhibition Title: Strange Way to Go\nArtist: Scott Gyllstrom\nOpening Reception: First Friday\, April 3 | 5–8 PM\nLocation: Spokane Art School\, 503 E. Second Ave Spokane\, WA 99022 \nScott Gyllstrom is a self-taught artist from Spokane\, Washington\, working in a variety of mediums including oil\, acrylic\, and ink. His work ranges from pattern-based compositions to abstract and figurative imagery\, often blending these approaches within a single piece. \nThrough layered forms\, mark-making\, and shifting visual elements\, Gyllstrom creates work that invites viewers to slow down and explore. Each piece offers something unexpected—small details\, hidden relationships\, or visual rhythms that reveal themselves over time. \nStrange Way to Go brings together works that play with this sense of discovery\, encouraging viewers to engage with the artwork in their own way and find meaning in the strange\, the playful\, and the unfamiliar.

DESCRIPTION:Please join us on Friday\, April 3rd\, from 5 to 8\, for the opening of “Cry Baby”\, an innovative and thought provoking new exhibit by Missoula artist Elisha Harteis. Elisha’s work\, which focuses on depictions of children and animals\, is both deeply engaging and unsettling\, juxtaposing the quiet brutality of child abuse against the perceived\, inherent innocence of children. This is going to be a significantly engaging exhibit by a wildly inventive and deeply perceptive artist. “Cry Baby” runs through the end of the month. D2 Gallery\, 310 W. SUMMARY:ART COLLECTORS ANGIE & CHRIS
DESCRIPTION:DSP FF 4/26 \nIt’s First Friday time! \nFirst Friday is one of the best things about Spokane. We hope you get out and see a bunch of different First Friday shows. \nThere are all kinds of venues showing all kinds of artists. \nThere’s a place for every taste and skill level. \nIf you’re looking for some stunning art from award-winning professional artists then Marmot is the place for you! \nThis First Friday we’ll do something you’ve probably never seen. We’ll celebrate a couple of Art Collectors! \nHave you ever met one? The can be pretty awesome\, especially Marmot fans. \nMeet Angie and Chris. They’ve got a very contemporary art collection. Learn about it. Get to know them. Grrreat couple! \nAre collecting is something normal that normal people do. We encourage it at Marmot. \nMarmot is a commercial art gallery and Spokane doesn’t have much of a history of commercial art galleries. There was one back in the 90s\, but nothing since then. \nCommercial galleries exist in the big cities like New York and San Francisco\, but rarely in midsize cities like Spokane. In order to keep them alive you need an art buying culture and generally that’s a generational thing. \nBut we’ve somehow found the support here in Spokane. Thank you! \nCome say\, “Hi!” to everyone this First Friday\, April 3rd\, at Marmot Art Space. Doors open at 5 PM!

SUMMARY:First Friday: What's on the other side
DESCRIPTION:We exist in a moment of over-stimulation and information saturation\, a moment where a short descriptive paragraph can create a beautiful\, sparkling image for us\, but then be quickly forgotten and dissolved back into the ether of the internet. This work is a playful way to make commentary on the serious questions about AI art. Using very simple pre-programmed vacuuming/mopping robots with some minimal modifications I wrangle the robots to produce something visually interesting. The catch is\, just like AI\, these robots cannot do it on their own. They need input and a lot of help from a person to make the art.

SUMMARY:What's on the other side: Works by JJ Harty
DESCRIPTION:We exist in a moment of over-stimulation and information saturation\, a moment where a short descriptive paragraph can create a beautiful\, sparkling image for us\, but then be quickly forgotten and dissolved back into the ether of the internet. This work is a playful way to make commentary on the serious questions about AI art. Using very simple pre-programmed vacuuming/mopping robots with some minimal modifications I wrangle the robots to produce something visually interesting. The catch is\, just like AI\, these robots cannot do it on their own. They need input and a lot of help from a person to make the art.
