SUMMARY:FRONT ROOM ART GALLERY “Woven Heritage” Exhibition
DESCRIPTION:“Woven Heritage” brings together paintings by Red Matthews and Erin Lang alongside the woven fiber works of Kimber Follevaag. The exhibition considers how personal\, cultural\, and family histories are not static artifacts\, but living guides that continue to resonate as we move through our current lives. Each artist engages that inheritance differently — intentionally or spontaneously — and the works on view trace how the messages and meanings of personal heritage continue to speak through paintbrush\, fiber\, and the presentation of the finished work.

SUMMARY:First Friday: THE WAY I SEE IT\, Photographic works by Erik Sohner
DESCRIPTION:The work presented in this show consists of primarily still life and constructed reality imagery. My hope is that these images evoke both an\nemotional response and intellectual connection on some level\, while leaving room for the viewer to explore personal narrative and find their own individual meaning or interpretation. Myprocess generally consists of some style of light painting in capture and composite in post. I use\nlight as my paintbrush and the computer as a canvas to construct and manipulate what I\nphysically see into what I see in my mind’s eye; to explore without boundaries.

SUMMARY:Big City Community Art Gallery Artist Matt Schwenk
DESCRIPTION:Big City Community Gallery presents\, artist in residency\, Matt Schwenk. Matt Schwenk is an internationally collected mixed media artist\, who specializes in dazzling\, textural\, abstract and photorealism paintings\, under crushed glass.  In his new series\, Matt aims to take his greatest inspirations from nature and his travels\, and abstract them into dreamlike escapes. Some places may feel familiar\, and some places may be pure fantasy; Matt Schwenk invites his viewers to explore the lines between them.\n“I consider the success of a work\, based on how much time I can steal from someone. Is there a sparkle that catches their eye and draws them over? But more importantly\, once I have caught a viewers attention\, what can I share with them? Are there things to discover that keep them there? Can my work provide a small escape from the day\, where people can get lost via swimming colors\, organic movements\, dazzling lights\, and layered textures? I hope so. I view my work as an invitation\, and I hope people will find a reason to stay a moment\, in the little worlds I create. Who knows what they’ll find there? ”         -Matt Schwenk \nCome explore Matt Schwenk’s new collection of dreamscapes\, at Big City Community Gallery September 4th\, and get lost in the colorful\, sparkling\, fantastical world\, that exist in his head.

SUMMARY:THE WAY I SEE IT\, Photographic works by Erik Sohner
DESCRIPTION:The work presented in this show consists of primarily still life and constructed reality imagery. My hope is that these images evoke both an emotional response and intellectual connection on some level\, while leaving room for the viewer to explore personal narrative and find their own individual meaning or interpretation. My process generally consists of some style of light painting in capture and composite in post. I use light as my paintbrush and the computer as a canvas to construct and manipulate what I physically see into what I see in my mind’s eye; to explore without boundaries. \nOpen during store hours

SUMMARY:Books & Brews Book Fair!!!
DESCRIPTION:Is it really that time again already?! \nRemember the excitement you’d feel when your teacher would hand out those scholastic book fair fliers and later that night you would flip through the catalog and circle all of the books you wanted knowing you couldn’t actually get them all but you allowed yourself to dream they would be yours soon…and then the agony when it was time to decide which ONE you could actually get and your teacher was telling you it was time to go back to class but you still couldn’t decide between Goosebumps or Baby-Sitters Club? Or is that just us? \nIt’s time to relive the Book Fair experience! \nCome on down to Brick West Brewing (1318 W 1st Ave) on Saturday\, September 5th between 11am and 6pm to sip a beer and peruse our tables of books and fun merch! \nNot exactly like your childhood book fair since sipping a beer is an option\, but you’ll still get that book fair thrill. Ahh\, the nostalgia. \nOf course we can’t bring our entire bookstore over to Brick West\, but we’ll have a pretty great selection including bestsellers\, staff picks\, kids books\, and so much more. Seriously we have stacks\, and stacks\, and stacks\, and never ending stacks of books and merch to bring. Why not spend part of your Saturday hanging out with good books and good brews? \nHope to see you there! \n(Please come & buy books. I don’t want to haul all of them back to the store. They are heavy!) \nP.S. If you chose Goosebumps\, chat with Teri at the Book Fair…she has opinions and a modern recommendation! \n* We take most forms of payment: cash\, card\, check\, Apple Pay\, Google Pay*
