SUMMARY:CATHARSIS Opening Reception at Terrain Gallery
DESCRIPTION:Please join us for the opening reception of CATHARSIS\, an interdisciplinary solo exhibition by Duncan Clark Menzies examining one’s journey from concealment to discovery through catharsis. This exhibition extends the central question of The Bedsheet Chronicles: “What do you cover?” Through landscapes and the cultural terrains around us\, CATHARSIS explores how our environment shapes\, conceals\, or defines our worldview—consciously and unconsciously—through life experiences\, religion\, family\, society\, and the culture of our adolescence. \nFeaturing a variety of media\, including conceptual lamps\, collage\, classical Americana landscapes\, surveys of different decades\, and photojournalism\, the exhibition will also include an immersive installation and sheet covered canopy premiering a new documentary about The Bedsheet Chronicles\, which was created in collaboration with videographer Jack Wade.\n______________________________________________ \nDUNCAN MENZIES ARTIST STATEMENT: \nDuncan Clark Menzies is an interdisciplinary conceptual artist born in Snohomish and raised in Coeur d’Alene\, where he currently resides. His work explores the intersections of spiritual\, Celtic\, communal\, and queer identities through shared stories and spaces. \nMenzies’ primary project\, The Bed Sheet Chronicles\, collects personal stories through community interviews in which he asks participants\, “What do you cover?” Interviewees then provide him with a bedsheet. Using bedsheets\, storytelling\, performance\, woodworking\, projection\, and lighting\, the project examines themes of shame\, upbringing\, religion\, politics\, cultural heritage\, and identity.

SUMMARY:What's on the other side: Works by JJ Harty
DESCRIPTION:We exist in a moment of over-stimulation and information saturation\, a moment where a short descriptive paragraph can create a beautiful\, sparkling image for us\, but then be quickly forgotten and dissolved back into the ether of the internet. This work is a playful way to make commentary on the serious questions about AI art. Using very simple pre-programmed vacuuming/mopping robots with some minimal modifications I wrangle the robots to produce something visually interesting. The catch is\, just like AI\, these robots cannot do it on their own. They need input and a lot of help from a person to make the art.

SUMMARY:CATHARSIS at Terrain Gallery
DESCRIPTION:CATHARSIS is an interdisciplinary solo exhibition by Duncan Clark Menzies examining one’s journey from concealment to discovery through catharsis. \nFeaturing a variety of media\, including conceptual lamps\, collage\, classical Americana landscapes\, surveys of different decades\, and photojournalism\, the exhibition will also include an immersive installation and sheet covered canopy premiering a new documentary about The Bedsheet Chronicles\, which was created in collaboration with videographer Jack Wade.\n____________________________________________________________________________ \nARTIST STATEMENT: \nDuncan Clark Menzies is an interdisciplinary conceptual artist born in Snohomish and raised in Coeur d’Alene\, where he currently resides.

SUMMARY:Julie Morris Memorial Benefit Brunch 2026
DESCRIPTION:This year’s Julie Morris Memorial Benefit Brunch is a celebration of the real difference that Spokane Area Jewish Family Services makes every day — for seniors\, families\, and individuals who need connection and support. \nAt SAJFS\, that difference takes many forms. Our monthly JFS Luncheons give seniors a place to gather\, connect\, and belong. Our transportation assistance program ensures that seniors and clients with disabilities can reach the medical appointments that keep them well. When a household is stretched thin\, our rent and utility assistance can make the difference between stability and crisis. And our peer-led caregivers support group offers something equally essential: a space where those who give so much can also receive\, sharing the rewards and the challenges of caring for a loved one. \nNone of this happens without you. \nWe know you share our belief in the power of service — and in helping people help themselves. So please join us at Fête (120 N Stevens St\, Spokane\, WA 99201) on Sunday\, June 7\, at 10 a.m. for a Benefit Brunch you won’t want to miss. We’ll honor Dr. Meryl Gersh and Joan Berkowitz with the Julie Morris Outstanding Service Award. The event will also feature a musical performance by a quartet and vocalist from Hot Club of Spokane! \nTo learn more\, reach us at (509) 413-8254 or director@sajfs.org. We hope you’ll register or become an event sponsor today; we can’t wait to see you there!
