SUMMARY:Opening Reception for Critical Infrastructure
DESCRIPTION:Get a first look at the show and the chance to meet the artists! \nMuseum and gallery directors\, nonprofit arts organization founders\, art teachers\, and other local arts advocates have made a life of showcasing the art of others\, while their own work is rarely seen. This exhibition challenges its participants to make new work\, providing space to honor the creative talents that led them to these careers. It also highlights the breadth of our regional arts ecosystem\, offering a chance to meet and connect with the stewards of our growing arts community. Prepare to experience a range of works in clay\, mixed media sculpture\, painting\, printmaking\, photography and more. Each participant’s work is united in the theme that they don’t make art to make a living\, yet they are immersed in art and with artists every day\, which is a unique perspective. \nOrganized by long time artist\, arts educator and journalist Carrie Scozzaro\, Critical Infrastructure includes the work of Ali Blackwood (Inlander)\, Ali Shute (Coeur d’Alene Arts & Culture Alliance – retired)\, Ann Saberi (Jordan Schnitzer Museum WSU)\, Brooke Shelman Wagner\, (Northwest Museum of Arts and Culture)\, Chelsea Cordova (artist; co-founder\, Front Room Gallery and co-manager\, Marmot Art Space)\, Eva Silverstone (The Hive / Spokane Public Libraries)\, Jeni Riplinger (founder of Emerge)\, Jennifer LaRue (manager\, Kolva-Sullivan Gallery)\, John Fullmer (Northwest Museum of Arts and Culture)\, Katie Patterson Larson (founder\, Art Salvage)\, Kelly Baker (KB Consulting; co-founder\, Front Room Gallery and co-manager\, Marmot Art Space)\, Kelsey Cook (Spokane International Academy)\, Kristin Becker (Jordan Schnitzer Museum WSU)\, Megan Cherry (Moscow Public Arts)\, Rob Worstell (Northwest Museum of Arts and Culture) and Shawn Gunnier (Northwest Museum of Arts and Culture). \nIn addition to its opening night\, which coincides with First Friday\, Critical Infrastructure is scheduled to run through October 31st and will be open FREE to the public every Thursday\, Friday and Saturday from 4pm – 7pm at 628 N Monroe St\, Spokane\, WA 99201.

SUMMARY:Opening Reception for "Drunken Boxing"\, artwork by Blake Liliane Hellman
DESCRIPTION:Please join us on First Friday\, October 2nd\, from 5 to 8\, for the opening reception of Drunken Boxing\, a compelling new exhibit of the mixed-media paintings\, video and working notebooks of Blake Liliane Hellman. Drunken boxing is a discipline of deliberate imbalance. The fighter trains rigorously\, then lets that training go. It is a method of practiced relaxation\, a devious carelessness. A misstep is not weakness\, it is process in disguise. That same tension between discipline and surrender runs through the paintings of Blake Liliane Hellman\, whose work explores that moment when conscious control abates just long enough to disarm both artist and viewer. Drunken Boxing runs from October 2nd to October 30th\, open Wednesdays and Thursdays from 11 to 5:30\, Fridays and Saturdays 11 to 6

SUMMARY:Inder the Surface: An Interplay with Otherness
DESCRIPTION:University of Idaho Environmental Science professor and artist David Roon invites us to look beneath the surface to explore the connection between humans and the ecosystems we often overlook. David’s “ecological artwork” encompasses ceramics\, mixed media\, and printmaking. Thematically\, his work explores the interface between humans and the global biosphere (particularly coastal and marine ecosystems). He merges his commitment to conservation biology with elegant\, conceptual artwork\, posing deeper questions about the meaning of otherness as it relates to the ecosystem and the ecological threat we face.  \nArtist reception: First Friday\, October 2\, 2026\, 5–9 p.m. Refreshments and light appetizers

SUMMARY:Critical Infrastructure at Terrain Gallery
DESCRIPTION:Museum and gallery directors\, nonprofit arts organization founders\, art teachers\, and other local arts advocates have made a life of showcasing the art of others\, while their own work is rarely seen.
