SUMMARY:In May the Liberty Gallery Features "Illuminated Spirit"\, Paintings by Janene Grende!
DESCRIPTION:This show centers around the flow of life in the natural world\, illuminated by the slanting light at the edges of dawn and dusk. The paintings celebrate life’s small wonders; the fleeting instance of a hummingbird\, the rushing sound of a waterfall\, the sweet smell of spring grass bending to the hooves of a new foal. \n“Native Mother Nature” is a grand centerpiece of creatures engaging in a peaceful afternoon of spirits coming together\, celebrating the simple joys of living as intended; and the painting “The Big Red Horse” honors the year of the fire horse\, a year of building for a future of powerful beginnings. \nStop by the Liberty Gallery at 203 N. Washington St during May to see Janene’s painting ~ stop by First Friday May 1st from 5-8pm to meet Janene in person!

SUMMARY:Cherylee Duncan is the PPP Guest Artist in May!
DESCRIPTION:There is a school of thought that artists must have only one recognizable style but Cherylee Duncan has too much artful energy to adhere to that ‘rule’. If she has a distinct trademark\, it would be ‘eclectic’ ~ Cherylee abhors waste and therefore get excited about reusing and upcycling as much as possible\, to emulate nature’s delight in each piece. \nWhen she crochets rugs from all recycled fabrics Cherylee saves bits and pieces for use in mixed media paintings. This method\, along with using only what is already on hand\, is how she has created her new series\, Threadscapes II ~ the options are excitingly endless. \nStop by Pottery Place Plus in the historic Liberty Building this May to see Cherylee’s work ~ come by First Friday May 1st to meet Cherylee in person!

DESCRIPTION:We exist in a moment of over-stimulation and information saturation\, a moment where a short descriptive paragraph can create a beautiful\, sparkling image for us\, but then be quickly forgotten and dissolved back into the ether of the internet. This work is a playful way to make commentary on the serious questions about AI art. Using very simple pre-programmed vacuuming/mopping robots with some minimal modifications I wrangle the robots to produce something visually interesting. The catch is\, just like AI\, these robots cannot do it on their own. They need input and a lot of help from a person to make the art.

SUMMARY:Mexican Staples
DESCRIPTION:Frijoles are the building blocks for almost every Mexican meal\, but cooking them from scratch may seem intimidating. In this partially hands-on class Jamie will take the guesswork out of cooking and seasoning beans in the classic stovetop style\, then you’ll get hands-on and cook Mexican rice\, seasoning from scratch\, and a roja enchilada sauce.

SUMMARY:"The Table is Set" at Terrain Gallery
DESCRIPTION:Join us at Terrain Gallery for ‘The Table Is Set’\, a unique art show by Liv Hebert Watkins\, honoring the everyday people\, objects\, and rituals in life. The central aspect of this concept is the dinner table– a space where individuals gather and interact as a whole; despite differences in background\, culture\, language or family ties. There is beauty in the simple act of gathering\, sharing a warm drink\, eating food\, and sitting together. Combining iconographic halos with commonplace faces and objects\, Liv explores the beauty and divinity of the ordinary.

SUMMARY:Junior Lilac Parade
DESCRIPTION:The Junior Lilac Parade is a cherished community tradition in Spokane\, celebrating the creativity\, energy\, and spirit of local youth. Held annually as part of the Spokane Lilac Festival\, the parade features hundreds of children participating in colorful floats\, marching groups\, dance teams\, and themed entries. Designed especially for kids\, it offers a fun and welcoming way for families\, schools\, and youth organizations to take part in one of the city’s most beloved events\, while fostering pride\, imagination\, and community connection. \nA highlight of the Junior Lilac Parade in Spokane is the middle school marching band competition\, where young musicians take center stage. Bands from across the region march the parade route while performing coordinated music and drill routines\, showcasing both their musical talent and teamwork. \nJudged on elements like sound quality\, precision\, creativity\, and overall presentation\, the competition gives students a chance to experience the excitement of performance in a supportive\, community-centered setting.
