SUMMARY:Opening Reception for Trauma Spectrum at Terrain Gallery
DESCRIPTION:Trauma Spectrum is an exhibition by artist Emily Flynn-DeLay exploring the nonlinear process of healing from trauma. The show features three full-figure sculptures\, each positioned in direct relation to two dimensional painted objects they face or observe. These painted elements act as visual stand-ins for memory\, perception\, and internalized experience. \nThrough the physical tension between sculptural bodies and painted imagery\, Trauma Spectrum examines how trauma is revisited\, confronted\, and gradually recontextualized over time. The figures do not depict moments of impact\, but rather states of reflection and captures the quiet\, ongoing work of processing what remains. The exhibition invites viewers to consider healing not just as a single moment of resolution\, but as a spectrum of awareness\, distance\, and change. \nThis show will be on view at Terrain Gallery November 6th – November 28th.\nFirst Friday Opening Reception (meet the artist!): November 6th | 5PM – 8PM\nRegular Gallery Hours: Thursday-Saturday | 4PM – 7PM

SUMMARY:Opening Reception for "William Park - Collected Works"
DESCRIPTION:Please join us on Friday\, November 6th\, for the opening of William Park – Collected Works. William Park was a beloved Portland artist\, instructor\, and friend to the Northwest art community. He maintained a collaborative studio in Northeast Portland where he worked and held workshops for the last 35 years of his life. William Park passed away in March of 2025\, and the work featured in this exhibit spans much of his career. This is a unique opportunity to experience the work of an artist who was a staple of the Northwest art world\, and whose gestural and expressive paintings\, as well as his stunning monotypes\, influenced a generation of Portland artists.

SUMMARY:Climate Resilience through Mutual Aid
DESCRIPTION:As climate hazards and extreme weather impacts intensify and public systems across the United States face growing strain\, mutual aid—understood as grassroots\, reciprocal networks of care and solidarity—can be understood as a critical yet underrecognized form of climate resilience. While most academic and policy attention has situated mutual aid within the context of COVID-19\, its significance extends across both sudden-onset disasters\, such as heat waves\, hurricanes\, and winter storms\, and ongoing structural crises\, including housing and food insecurity. Across these contexts\, mutual aid operates as flexible\, trust-based infrastructure: networks that mobilize quickly\, adapt to changing conditions\, and sustain forms of care that formal institutions often struggle to provide. This talk highlights the role of mutual aid within a climate adaptation and resilience framing\, in Seattle\, Washington and Asheville\, North Carolina and draws upon semi-structured interviews to examine possibilities and challenges to collaboration with formal health institutions and local governments. Attention to these dynamics highlights both the possibilities and tensions that emerge in relation to formal institutions\, with implications for how climate adaptation\, disaster response\, and structural inequities are understood and addressed.

SUMMARY:Critical Infrastructure at Terrain Gallery
DESCRIPTION:Museum and gallery directors\, nonprofit arts organization founders\, art teachers\, and other local arts advocates have made a life of showcasing the art of others\, while their own work is rarely seen. This exhibition challenges its participants to make new work\, providing space to honor the creative talents that led them to these careers. It also highlights the breadth of our regional arts ecosystem\, offering a chance to meet and connect with the stewards of our growing arts community. Prepare to experience a range of works in clay\, mixed media sculpture\, painting\, printmaking\, photography and more. Each participant’s work is united in the theme that they don’t make art to make a living\, yet they are immersed in art and with artists every day\, which is a unique perspective. \nOrganized by long time artist\, arts educator and journalist Carrie Scozzaro\, Critical Infrastructure includes the work of Ali Blackwood (Inlander)\, Ali Shute (Coeur d’Alene Arts & Culture Alliance – retired)\, Ann Saberi (Jordan Schnitzer Museum WSU)\, Brooke Shelman Wagner\, (Northwest Museum of Arts and Culture)\, Chelsea Cordova (artist; co-founder\, Front Room Gallery and co-manager\, Marmot Art Space)\, Eva Silverstone (The Hive / Spokane Public Libraries)\, Jeni Riplinger (founder of Emerge)\, Jennifer LaRue (manager\, Kolva-Sullivan Gallery)\, John Fullmer (Northwest Museum of Arts and Culture)\, Katie Patterson Larson (founder\, Art Salvage)\, Kelly Baker (KB Consulting; co-founder\, Front Room Gallery and co-manager\, Marmot Art Space)\, Kelsey Cook (Spokane International Academy)\, Kristin Becker (Jordan Schnitzer Museum WSU)\, Megan Cherry (Moscow Public Arts)\, Rob Worstell (Northwest Museum of Arts and Culture) and Shawn Gunnier (Northwest Museum of Arts and Culture). \nIn addition to its opening night\, which coincides with First Friday\, Critical Infrastructure is scheduled to run through October 31st and will be open FREE to the public every Thursday\, Friday and Saturday from 4pm – 7pm at 628 N Monroe St\, Spokane\, WA 99201.
