We will be featuring artist T.K. Pruitt this month. She is a native of the northwest who grew up with a Japanese American mother and a Southern father. Much of her work reflects the mix of these two very different cultures. Spending much of her childhood in the outdoors, camping and fishing with her father, she developed a great love for the beauty nature already provides us. Her mother and grandmother exposed her to the art of simplicity. She would spend hours with her grandmother’s looking through the Japanese magazines she subscribed to. They were full of fashion, art, ceramics, interior design, and words she could not read. These two backgrounds come together in her work. They are the base from where she start everything.
