About This Event

The Chase Gallery is proud to present OUTSIDER ART, opening First Friday, March 7 at City Hall.
“If we are to achieve a richer culture, we must weave one in which each diverse human gift will find a fitting place.” Margaret Meade
Outsider Art has a naïve quality, often produced by people who have not trained as artists or worked within the conventional structures of art production. Even though this term doesn’t define anyone, nor is meant to fit someone into a genre, it merely is the starting point for fostering a deeper understanding of art’s power to connect us all.
Many artists who have developmental, physical, mental disabilities or traumatic brain injuries face day to day functional challenges yet rise above all odds to create profound and inspirational expressions from their own unique viewpoint.
Many of these individuals have extreme deficits that make it nearly impossible to access the arts community without specialized programming or advocacy, yet somehow these works of art emerge from the very essence of their being.
We celebrate disability inclusion by showcasing some of these artists from the Spokane region as well as the Pacific Northwest.
