In preparation for the upcoming NCAA Basketball Tournament and Pacific Northwest Qualifier volleyball tournament weekends, the Downtown Spokane Partnership (DSP) and local business leaders have joined forces to ensure the city’s gateways are pristine and welcoming for visitors.
On March 21, members of the Downtown Clean Team, alongside support from the Reclaim Project, dedicated their time and effort to clean up the gateways leading into downtown Spokane. Armed with cleaning supplies and a determination to make a difference, the team embarked on an extensive cleanup operation.
Here’s a snapshot of their efforts by the numbers:
- 8 hours: Spent cleaning over 20 blocks of downtown streets and gateways.
- 75 bags of trash: Collected during the cleanup, ensuring litter was properly disposed of.
- 2 shopping carts: Removed from the streets, contributing to the overall cleanliness of the area.
- 20+ graffiti tags removed: Erasing graffiti vandalism to restore the visual appeal of downtown Spokane.
These extensive cleanup efforts were undertaken with support of Spokane Sports, Visit Spokane, PFD, GSI and private donations to present downtown Spokane in its best light ahead of the bustling spring events calendar, including NCAA basketball playoffs and soon, the 50-year celebration of Expo 74. By investing time and resources into maintaining the cleanliness of city gateways, DSP and local business leaders aim to showcase downtown’s vibrancy and hospitality to visitors and residents alike.
As the anticipation builds for the upcoming tournaments and celebrations, downtown Spokane stands ready to welcome guests with open arms and a clean, inviting environment.
