Candidates responded to questions created by the Downtown Spokane Partnership

Today, the Downtown Spokane Partnership (DSP) announces a new resource for downtown property and business owners, residents, employers, workers, and visitors to learn how candidates for local elected office will approach downtown issues if elected.

“Ensuring Spokane has a thriving urban downtown core means addressing the key issues that impact residents, workers, and visitors alike,” says Emilie Cameron, President and CEO of the DSP. “Members and downtown stakeholders want to understand how candidates plan to support this unique environment and foster both safety and economic growth.”

While the DSP does not endorse candidates, the organization collects responses each year and encourages voters to review them before making decisions at the ballot box in November.

The questionnaire was developed by the DSP using its 2025 policy principles: cultivating economic activity, enhancing a vibrant downtown experience, building and expanding housing of all types, improving public safety, and supporting funding, facilities, and services that ensure people can access the help they need. All candidates on the November 4 ballot were invited to respond, and their full answers are available at downtownspokane.org/candidate-questionnaire. The 2025 Candidate Questions highlight responses from both Spokane City Council candidates and Municipal Court Judge candidates.

In addition to gathering candidate perspectives, the DSP Board of Directors took action earlier this summer by endorsing Together Spokane, the joint ballot measures from Spokane Parks & Recreation and Spokane Public Schools. These measures will fund 170 projects citywide, with direct benefits for downtown. “Together Spokane will bring enhanced safety through dedicated Park Rangers at Riverfront Park and upgraded sports facilities to attract tourism and events, directly benefiting local business owners,” says Cameron. “A yes vote ensures the future of our city’s parks, schools, and economic vitality.”

As a private, 501c(6) not-for-profit, DSP strives to create an exciting, attractive, and vibrant downtown Spokane for the people who live, work and visit. Learn more at DowntownSpokane.org.
