Margarita (Hussissian) Bauer

Margarita “Maggie” Bauer was born in 1930 and passed away in 2019 at the age of 89 in Barrington, Illinois. She was a highly accomplished artist and educator whose career spanned decades. Maggie attended the Art Institute of Chicago, where she later taught, and also served as an instructor at Northwestern University and Harper College.
Throughout her career, Maggie explored a wide range of artistic media and techniques, including acrylics, oils, washes, metal sculpture, fiberglass, and more. She became especially well known in Chicago as a portrait artist, painting numerous Chicago Bears players, including Walter Payton, as well as prominent business leaders and influential figures throughout the region. While brief, she also worked with the Carter administration as a art consultant for foreign embassies.
After purchasing property in Sedona, Arizona, Maggie developed a deep fascination with Native peoples and their culture, capturing their strength and beauty through her art. Her work reflected a profound spiritual dimension and a desire, as she often expressed it, to “touch the angels.” She found beauty in all aspects of life and dedicated herself to revealing that beauty through her art.
