Friday: Weather Preparedness Day – Ready for Anything
Happy Friday, Spokane! As Summer Safety Week wraps up, we turn our attention to Weather Preparedness. From heatwaves and wildfire smoke to snowstorms and icy roads, Spokane’s seasons bring a mix of beauty and challenges. Being prepared means being safe—and helping others do the same.
Extreme Weather Tips:
- During heat waves, use cooling centers like local libraries and TRAC.
- Learn the signs of heat stroke: dizziness, confusion, rapid pulse.
- In winter, dress in waterproof, layered clothing and avoid overexposure.
- Prep your car for snow with emergency kits, ice scrapers, and full tanks.
Wildfire & Emergency Prep Tips:
- Keep 30 feet of defensible space around your home—clear dry brush and flammables.
- Register for Alert Spokane to get emergency evacuation notices.
- Know multiple exit routes from your neighborhood.
- Have an emergency kit ready: water, food, flashlight, first aid, and power banks.
Whether it’s blazing hot or snowing sideways, Spokane is prepared—and so are you. Thank you for joining us this week to celebrate safety, build awareness, and support our amazing downtown community. Stay safe out there—whatever the weather!
