In response the latest Pulse Poll released by Greater Spokane Inc., the Downtown Spokane Partnership’s President & CEO, Emilie Cameron, released the following statement:
Spokane understands how important a strong and thriving downtown is. At a time when communities can struggle to find common ground, it is profound that consistently nearly all Spokane voters agree that a thriving downtown is critical to the economic success of our entire region. Downtown matters well beyond its physical boundary. It is crucial to the future of Spokane.
Which is why the perception of safety and how people feel about visiting downtown conveyed in the latest Pulse Poll is concerning. Everyone should feel confident coming downtown to work, shop, dine, attend events and enjoy the exciting offerings our urban center has.
Fostering a safe, clean and welcoming downtown is at the center of what the Downtown Spokane Partnership does every day. DSP Safety and Clean Team Ambassadors alongside marketing and events teams work seven days a week to support and promote this work. We also continue to work with partners to address the conditions that affect downtown vitality and advance solutions to make real and sustainable improvements that residents, employees and visitors can feel and see.
While there’s more that must be done, we’re optimistic about the progress we can continue to make. Already this year, nearly two dozen new ground-floor businesses have opened, over 15,000 square feet of new murals were added to building exteriors and foot traffic has slightly increased compared to last year. As we head into the 2026 holiday season, I’m optimistic about the momentum ahead. Everyone in our community can be a part of it. Make plans to come downtown, experience events, support our local businesses, build new holiday traditions and rediscover the energy and experiences that make downtown Spokane such a special place.
