Art Beats is an exciting initiative by the Downtown Spokane Partnership (DSP), inviting local musicians and visual artists to showcase their talent to the public in downtown Spokane. Running from July through September 2024, Art Beats aims to enrich the urban landscape and celebrate Spokane’s vibrant artistic community.

Program Highlights

Stipends for Performers: Participating artists will receive stipends for scheduled performances in various downtown locations, including Parkade Plaza, Riverfront Park, River Park Square, West End Plaza, Lincoln Plaza, and partner street activations.

Amplified Support: The DSP will provide promotional and operational support to enhance the visibility and impact of performances, ensuring a memorable experience for downtown visitors.

Celebrating Expo 74: As Spokane commemorates the fifty-year celebration of Expo 74, Art Beats serves as a significant cultural event, symbolizing the city’s commitment to artistic expression and community engagement.

Examples

Music: Street Performer with Acoustic Guitar

• A street performer playing an acoustic guitar can create a pleasant ambiance with soothing melodies or catchy tunes.
• The musician can set up a small area with a chair or stool and engage passersby with their music.
• People can stop to listen, relax, and appreciate the live music experience.

Dance: Solo Contemporary Dance Performance

• A solo contemporary dance performance can captivate audiences with expressive movements and emotions.
• The dancer can utilize the 10 x 10 area as a stage, incorporating fluid movements and choreography.
• Passersby can gather around to watch the dancer’s captivating performance, experiencing a moment of artistry in the midst of their daily routine.

Visual Art: Live Mural Painting

• A visual artist can create a live mural painting within the confines of a 10 x 10 area, using portable easels or boards.
• Spectators can observe the artist’s creative process as they bring the mural to life, adding layers of color and detail.
• This interactive experience allows people to witness art in progress and engage with the artist, fostering a sense of connection and appreciation for visual art.
