New Private Security Patrols to Bolster Safety & Security Downtown

Spokane, WASH. —The Downtown Spokane Partnership (DSP) today announced a new pilot program to expand security coverage to ensure a safe experience for shoppers and visitors in the city’s premier retail district this holiday season.

“Our highest priority is comfort and security when shopping in our stores, dining in our restaurants, visiting our venues, staying in our hotels and making new holiday memories in downtown Spokane,” said Emilie Cameron, President & CEO of the Downtown Spokane Partnership. “We’re ready to welcome shoppers and visitors experiencing the wonderful traditions of the holidays in Downtown this season.”

Holiday festivities bring joy and celebration but also an increased demand for services. The addition of new private security patrols are designed to supplement DSP’s Downtown Ambassadors and Clean Team members that go above and beyond daily to ensure downtown Spokane is safe and maintained. GoJoe Patrol will extend DSP’s presence across the Downtown Business Improvement District (BID) from 8 a.m. to midnight, seven days a week through December 31, 2023.

Funded exclusively by the BID, the new pilot private security program adds a visible deterrent and quick response to any potential threats with immediate assistance for residents, businesses, and visitors alike. Businesses and employers as well as the public can additionally request safety escorts within the BID from 8:00 AM to 11:45 PM seven days a week by calling 509.353.9111.

Continued Cameron, “We’re working alongside law enforcement, our partners and local leaders to focus on safety in and around the core of Downtown and ensure a positive experience for all to enjoy.”

DSP reiterated reminders from local authorities for visitors to protect themselves and their belongings by staying vigilant, locking cars and keeping valuables out of view.
