Spokane Falls Blvd Redesign

about the project

The City of Spokane is planning a full reconstruction of Spokane Falls Boulevard to replace aging pavement and underground utilities while improving safety and access for drivers, pedestrians, cyclists and transit users. The project will consider changes such as traffic-calming measures, upgraded lighting and signals, protected bicycle facilities and potential adjustments to traffic patterns, with final design planned for 2026–2027 and construction anticipated to begin in 2028.

dsp position: concerned

The Downtown Spokane Partnership and stakeholders along Spokane Falls Boulevard support the needed investment in aging infrastructure but are concerned that potential lane reductions, two-way conversion and other design changes could limit access to downtown businesses, hotels, venues and major events. Stakeholders have also expressed concern that their operational experience and previous feedback have not been adequately reflected in the concepts under consideration, and they are urging the City to preserve reliable access, carefully mitigate construction impacts and meaningfully involve adjacent property owners and operators before advancing a preferred design.
