August 4 – 8 is Summer Safety Week in downtown Spokane, a time to recognize the hard-working Downtown Ambassadors—the “crew in blue” keeping our streets safe and welcoming.
Part of the Downtown Spokane Business Improvement District (BID), Ambassadors provide friendly support to businesses, visitors, and residents. In 2024 alone, Ambassadors responded to 4,500 service calls, made 3,440 services contacts, and connected with businesses and citizens nearly 4,000 times. From giving directions and restaurant tips to offering social outreach, safety walks, and even roadside help, their impact is felt citywide. So far in 2025, the team has logged nearly 7,000 safety contacts within the downtown core.
All week long, Downtown Spokane will share safety tips on social media, from street awareness to workplace preparedness, aimed at keeping our community informed and connected.
The highlight of the week is National Night Out Against Crime, happening Tuesday, August 5, from 4–7 PM on Wall Street between Main Ave and Spokane Falls Blvd. Join us for an evening of fun, safety education, and neighborhood spirit:
- Connect with Spokane Police, Downtown Ambassadors, Park Rangers, and more
- Learn about wheel safety with Lime and enjoy the Downtown Recess Cart
- Meet local celebs Selkirk the Cat and Isaac the Comfort Dog
- Win prizes, play games, and grab a hot dog from Washington Trust Bank or a treat from Lem’s Popsicles
Night Out Against Crime is presented by the Riverside Neighborhood Council and Downtown Spokane Partnership, with support from Washington Trust Bank and Catholic Charities.
