The City of Spokane, Riverfront Park, Downtown Spokane Partnership, Visit Spokane, Greater Spokane Incorporated, and River Park Square (Contributing Partners) are partnering to inform the business community and public on the effects of street and public space construction projects starting in the Spring of 2016.

Background

The City of Spokane has planned an intense period of construction starting in the spring of 2016 to improve public infrastructure in the downtown core and revitalize Riverfront Park. Outside of the park, work includes rebuilding of streets including the Lincoln/Monroe corridor, construction of two combined sewer overflow tanks including one on Spokane Falls Boulevard just west of City Hall, and the reconstruction of the Post Street Bridge.  While the public improvements will benefit the community overall, and particularly the appeal of downtown, the construction work will be disruptive for motorists and others trying to reach the businesses in our core.  Construction in 2016 and 2017 will be particularly heavy, although projects in the park likely will continue until 2020.

Major projects:

• Begin Spring 2016:  Monroe and Lincoln reconstruction between Second and Main and also between 4th and 8th avenues.
• Begin Spring 2016: 1 million gallon Combined Sewer Overflow (CSO) Tank at Bosch Lot, at the northwest corner of Lincoln and Summit Blvd.
• Begin Late 2016/early 2017:  Construction in the Gondola Meadow at Riverfront Park for a new ice rink and other amenities.
• Begin Spring 2017: Reconstruction of the Post Street Bridge over the Spokane River.
• Begin Spring 2017: 2.2 million gallon Combined Sewer Overflow (CSO) tank installed at Spokane Falls Blvd. between Post and Monroe with surface to include a new public plaza.
• Begin Spring 2017: Asphalt resurfacing of Division, Brown and Ruby from I-90 to Euclid Ave.

Smaller projects include construction of a new surface on Wall Street between Spokane Falls Boulevard and Main Avenue, sewer work on Riverside Ave, west of Monroe, streetscape improvements on Main Avenue, and gateway improvements in the Division/Browne corridor.
