For the second year in a row, the Downtown Spokane Partnership (DSP) announced the availability of grant funds to support businesses located in the Downtown Spokane Business Improvement District (BID) to enhance storefront facades and improve properties visible from the street.
The ”Small Business Façade Enhancement Grant Program” aims to improve the appearance and functionality of the entrance of businesses or the front of buildings, making a measurable difference in the economic vitality of the businesses and entire downtown neighborhood. Research indicates that exterior improvements to buildings lead to increased economic vitality for businesses in that commercial area, along with increased foot traffic and public safety.
The grant program is structured as a reimbursement where business and property owners may be awarded up to $5,000 in funds for completed work. Funding for the grant is made possible with the support of BECU Philanthropy. The application period is currently open for eligible businesses, and will remain open until the $30,000 total of dedicated funds is exhausted.
“Beautifying our downtown storefronts is more than just a cosmetic upgrade, it’s a strategic investment in the heart of our city,” said Emilie Cameron, President and CEO of the DSP. “I am thrilled that the DSP is again partnering with BECU this year for a second round of funding with an expanded focus on patios, parklets and people, to enhance the downtown experience for everyone.”
In 2023 the DSP faciliated a similar grant program and awarded over $24,000 to 13 different businesses and properties in the BID. Recipients of that grant executed a range of projects with a cumulative budget exceeding $300,000 for essential repairs and aesthetic enhancements.
