John Noble Retrospective Show // October 4 – 30, 2024
The Spokane Art School Gallery is open Monday through Friday, 10am – 5pm.

John was a long-time resident of Spokane and a well-known artist. He was born in Milwaukee,
Wisconsin, on December 1, 1938. He graduated from Sherwood High School in Milwaukee and
studied fine arts at the University of Wisconsin in Milwaukee. Later, he earned an art scholarship
at the Otis Art Institute in Los Angeles, where he began a masters program in printmaking.
John had various careers throughout his life, from being a factory worker to owning a residential
painting company. He owned two art galleries in Spokane – Mad Kat Gallery in the Flour Mill in
the 70’s and Good Works Gallery from 2003 to 2008.

John was an avid reader and collected books of all kinds, especially children’s books. His true
passion was always his art. He enjoyed drawing surreal animals, each with humor and
personality, using mixed media. John was a great storyteller, and his artistic talent was evident
in his drawings.

He was a mentor, a big brother, a best friend, and an art teacher to many young children.

Proceeds from this sale benefit the John Noble Memorial Fund at the Spokane Art School, allowing area youth to take art classes with us free of charge.
