About This Event

Friends, this is a doubleheader.

First off, the Expo ‘74 50 Year Anniversary celebrations will officially begin in May and we want to make sure to be good Spokanites and participate so we’re highlighting the Expo ‘74 fountain created by legendary fountaineer George Tsutakawa.

George is arguably the king of fountains as he has 75 of them scattered all over the world – in particular in the States and in Japan.

Among his many awards, George received an honorary doctorate from both Whitman College and Seattle University, the Order of the Rising Sun from the Emperor of Japan, as well as Summa Laude Dignitus from the University of Washington.

We found a rarely seen video on the of the making of the fountain and we plan to show it.

Beyond that, the focus of Expo ‘74 was the environment and taking care of our planet, so who better to show then someone who cares so much about our planet: Shelli Walters!

Shelli is bringing new work up from Bend. And she’s excited to meet you and to tell you all about it!

We’ll also have our regular all star lineup – Smithsonian Visionary Artist Award Winner Patti Warashina, Legendary Painter Alfredo Arreguin, Professors Emeriti Ruben Trejo, Keiko Hara, and Gordon Wilson, Professors Frank Munns and Rob McKirdie, award-winning Bend Artists Sarah B Hansen and Shelli Walters, Portland painter Gabe Fernandez, and our favorite Montana-based artist Kelly Packer.

Excited to see you Friday, May 3rd!
