Spokane, WA – The Downtown Spokane Partnership (DSP) is excited to announce several key new hires, each bringing a wealth of experience and fresh perspectives to help support downtown Spokane’s growth and vibrancy. Joining the DSP team are Rae-Lynn Barden as Director of Policy & Membership, Brandon Dewey as Special Projects Manager, Celina Van Hyning as Marketing & Communications Coordinator, and Kimberlee Pekrul as Administrative Services Coordinator.
Rae-Lynn Barden, Director of Policy & Membership
Raised in Eastern Washington, Rae-Lynn Barden has been a champion of downtown Spokane for many years. A two-time graduate of Eastern Washington University with a master’s degree in public administration and an alumna of Leadership Spokane, Barden has dedicated her career to public service and downtown engagement. In her role, Barden will oversee DSP membership and public policy, bringing both her professional expertise and deep personal commitment to Spokane. She and her family are enthusiastic supporters of the city, enjoying local theater and their favorite downtown spots.
Brandon Dewey, Special Projects Manager
Relocated from Missoula, Montana, Brandon Dewey brings extensive experience in nonprofit and public administration to DSP. Formerly Director of Giving and Program Director at the Downtown Missoula Partnership, Dewey managed fundraising, grant writing, communications, and more. With over a decade in public service, he has developed a unique skill set that aligns well with DSP’s mission. Outside of work, Dewey enjoys time with his partner and two children, exploring Riverfront Park and visiting local attractions like the Ice Age Playground.
Celina Van Hyning, Marketing & Communications Coordinator
Celina Van Hyning joins DSP with a solid background in media and journalism. A graduate of Boise State University in media arts, Van Hyning has previously worked as a digital reporter in both Spokane and Boise, earning a Regional Edward R. Murrow Award and a Serious Feature Award from the Idaho Press Club. As DSP’s new marketing and communications coordinator, she’ll be showcasing the vibrant people, places, and events that make downtown Spokane unique. In her free time, Van Hyning enjoys exploring new coffee shops and restaurants with friends and spending time with her senior pup, Leah.
Kimberlee Pekrul, Administrative Services Coordinator
Hailing from Chugiak, Alaska, Kimberlee Pekrul brings her love of the outdoors and the arts to Spokane. With experience as a substitute teacher, paraeducator, and leasing professional, Pekrul will manage administrative services and assist with events at DSP. A passionate traveler who enjoys attending local events, Pekrul brings her enthusiasm for community engagement and Spokane’s cultural offerings to her role.
These new additions to the DSP team reinforce the organization’s commitment to fostering a vibrant downtown. “We’re thrilled to welcome these exceptional new team members,” said Emilie Cameron, President and CEO of the DSP. “Their diverse talents, expertise, and passion for our mission will play a pivotal role as we continue to strengthen and build a vibrant downtown core. I’m confident that their contributions will help continue to foster a more dynamic, thriving downtown.”
Cameron recently earned the Leadership in Place Management (LPM) certification from the International Downtown Association (IDA), highlighting her dedication to excellence in place management practices. IDA’s LPM certification is awarded to professionals who exhibit the expertise and leadership skills needed to manage and grow place management organizations effectively. The program ensures certified individuals demonstrate proficiency across all aspects of the field, while upholding a commitment to ethical standards and continuous professional development.
Cameron, who joined DSP in 2022 with nearly a decade of place management experience, has been instrumental in fostering the vibrancy of downtown Spokane. “I’m honored to be recognized by the IDA,” said Cameron. “I look forward to using my experience to bridge resources in our community and introduce best practices to further enhance downtown Spokane.”
