Spokane, WA

The long-vacant Trade Winds Motor Inn, located on the corner of Third Ave and Lincoln Street in downtown Spokane will soon see the winds of change.

A Howard Johnson franchisee out of Portland, OR has purchased the property with plans to revitalize the midcentury modern building, adding a much needed upgrade to one of Spokane’s major entrances.

Developers estimate that $3 million will be invested into the renovation. Design plans will maintain the 1960s midcentury modern aesthetic, staying true to the iconic style that the hotel is known for. The restored hotel will feature 60 rooms with the possibility for future expansion. “This investment is extremely important for downtown Spokane,” said Downtown Spokane Partnership President, Mark Richard. “The location sets the first and the last impression for many visitors to the area and just knowing the quality of Howard Johnson and their properties; we could not be happier.”

The south downtown area has experienced a recent resurgence of small investments and the hotel will further catalyze development in the neighborhood.

The project was brokered by commercial developer, NAI Black Commercial, Inc. “The team leading this project are top notch people and they have a great desire to get moving very soon,” says NAI Associate, Mark Pinch.

Franchise owner, David Malik says, “We’ve selected a contractor and are in the final stages of the design process with the goal to start construction in the near future.” The public can expect to see changes happening very quickly. “Spokane is a beautiful city and downtown is a perfect location for us to expand,” said Malik, “We are anxious to get going on this project and look forward to a long lasting partnership with the Spokane community.”
