As part of a regionwide effort to spread Kindness – Not COVID, the Downtown Spokane Partnership is launching several promotions to reward individuals for safely patronizing downtown businesses.

Check out the array of activities below.

Weekly Kindness Scavenger Hunt

Downtown businesses are taking care to ensure that patrons stay healthy when visiting a favorite retailer, restaurant, tasting room and more. Eight weekends of Kindness Challenge Scavenger Hunts begin August 14.

Entering to win is easy, each Friday at noon, the Downtown Spokane Facebook page will post the weekend’s challenge. Once participants know what they are looking for, all they have to do is grab a camera and come downtown to start searching. Once an object has been located, entrants are asked to comment on the post with an original image, and tag the downtown business where the photo was taken.

At the end of each weekend, all participants who successfully submitted a photo will be entered into a raffle for a chance to win a prize. Downtown Spokane will choose five winners to select a $20 gift card to the downtown business of their choice each week. Submissions will be accepted each weekend through Sunday at 5:00pm and the drawing will be held the following Monday morning.

Kindness Crew

Our Kindness Crew wants to thank visitors for exhibiting safe and healthy behaviors while in downtown, including, but not limited to; wearing a mask, washing hands, social distancing, supporting local businesses, being patient with others, maintaining a cheerful spirit, lending a helping hand, and more.

Look for the volunteer crews each weekend, outfitted in kindness gear traversing downtown on scooters provided by Lime. Individuals caught wearing a mask or spreading kindness could win gift cards and goods from downtown retailers, restaurants, and more. In addition, volunteers are ready to catch Lime users in the act property riding and parking scooters in the downtown area.

Kicking off on Saturday August 22, the Kindness Crews will be out every weekend through September to say thanks for keeping our community safe. To sign up to be a member of the Kindness Crew, visit www.downtwonspokane.org and click on the “Spread Kindness tab”.

Shop Local

On Saturday, August 22, retailers across the downtown core will move their inventory out into the fresh air for a downtown-wide sidewalk sale event.

This year more than ever, small businesses need support as they begin to recover from the devastating financial impacts caused by the pandemic. This event is intended to allow Spokanites the opportunity to safely and responsibly shop and support some of their favorite local businesses, while enjoying a variety of discounted merchandise and other promotions.

While these businesses are routinely taking extra safety precautions to prevent the spread of COVID-19 in their establishments, moving stock to outdoor spaces allows for increased social distancing and lower overall risk for patrons.

Play Kindopoly

This September, Downtown Spokane will partner with 20 local businesses to play “Kindopoly.” Visit or patronize a participating business, and collect that business’s Kindopoly playing card. Each card is an opportunity to enter to win one of several grand prize drawings. Collect all 20 cards, plus four other special event cards, and win automatically.  Watch for details at www.downtownspokane.org.
