Join us in downtown Spokane for First Friday. This month 37 venues are participating in the monthly art walk featuring live music, fashion and visual art mediums. Most venues open from 5:00 to 8:00 pm. For a full list of activities and artists visit www.firstfridayspokane.org.

This month’s featured First Friday poster artist is Diane Covington, Colville Confederated Tribes & Spokane Tribe of Indians. Born in 1961- Covington an emerging acrylic painter who tells stories in bold, strong colors of bold, strong indigenous women. She paints in memory of her paternal grandmother who was an artist, a teacher of Spokane tribal culture and language, and Diane’s first and lasting influence. This artist’s regalia-clothed figures preserve ancient traditions, explore contemporary issues, and imagine a future where indigenous ways of knowing and being are respected, accepted, and manifested.

A limited number of collectable posters of Covington’s piece, “Watching Squatch,” have been printed and will be made available to the public at the Downtown Library.

About First Friday
Downtown First Friday launched in November of 2003 in conjunction with the Spokane Arts Commission. Today, over 50 downtown venues participate each month to bring visitors to downtown, and promote arts patronage in our region. First Friday always occurs on the First Friday of the month with the exception of February and October, when First Friday and the Visual Arts Tour merge to become a city-wide arts tour presented by Spokane Arts.
